Many of us no longer aspire to work the traditional 9-5. We feel like the dream our parents sold us is dead.
We’re opting out of climbing the corporate ladder and we’re collectively giving the finger to traditional corporate life.
We’re after something more, and we’re turning to entrepreneurship to get it.
But, as more and more of us wave goodbye to the rat race to turn our passion project into a fully-fledged business, we’re up against some pretty big obstacles that stand in the way of our success.
These barriers have real implications. The result? It’s coined the entrepreneurship gender gap.
Never heard of it? Neither had we, until we read a recent study by Boston Consulting Group which found there’s a 4.4% gender gap in business creation globally, and Australia sits above that average at 4.9%.
The fact of the matter is – fewer women start businesses than men.
The reason for this is complicated. Women struggle to get funding. Women’s lack of confidence can hold us back. And women lack access to high-value networks that provide support, mentorship, and connections.
That’s where we step in.
OUR goal
The LADY-BRAINS mission is to close the entrepreneurship gender gap by removing the obstacles faced by women in business.
Why? Because women creating businesses at the same rate as men is a $5 trillion global opportunity.
Let that one sink in.
WHAT WE DO
We help women from all backgrounds start and grow businesses. It’s that simple.
We INSPIRE women by sharing stories of female founders who have paved the way, extracting nuggets of gold that will help others on their business building journey.
We EDUCATE by providing women with the resources and tools that will allow them to succeed.
We facilitate CONNECTIONS, by giving women access to a high-value network that they can draw upon. Peers, mentors, investors, suppliers – the lot.
WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
Back in 2017, we wanted to expand our network of entrepreneurs and creatives, and so we created a monthly invite-only supper club for like-minded women who were running their own business or had ambitions to sometime in the future. Over great food and wine, laughs and epiphanies, we made connections and friendships that extended far beyond the dinner table.
After the success of the first dinner we made it into a monthly series, and each time more and more women wanted to join the club. We soon realised the power of the conversations we had at the dinner table, and that they should be shared with more ladies around the world.
And so the podcast series was born.
The podcast is our way to get the super cool conversations we have with founders at our supper-clubs into the ears of lady-brains far and wide. Less like an interview and more like a conversation between friends - we sit down over wine and chat to ambitious, successful and inspiring entrepreneurial women - from the creators of brands like MECCA and Frank Body, to thought leaders like CJ Hendry and Cleo Wade. We share the truth behind how they got to where they are today.
